Create a main character

Create a character with a goal, but not too many other details

In your story, your goal is for the reader to put themselves in the main character’s shoes.

The character needs a quest (a goal) and a few motivators (why they are doing it). It might help to think about some of the stories you have read or heard about people experiencing the pandemic.

  • Which stories seemed interesting to you?
  • Why did these stories seem interesting?

Whoever you decide to write about, it’s a good idea to imagine all kinds of different choices that your character might make throughout the story.

Note: If you are writing a story with multiple possible endings, keep in mind that these stories are often written in second person present tense. Second person means the character is called “You” and present tense means the action is happening right now with action verbs like eat, see, walk, enter, watch, etc.
