Beyond the Box provides an interactive way for students to learn about the often overlooked achievements of Black scientists in agriculture and natural resource fields. The resource was created to inspire all children of color to explore future careers of which they may not be aware. Each scientist in this box was chosen because he or she represents the message that science is for everyone. Representation matters and everyone deserves a voice.
The Beyond the Box kit includes:
- 1 Museum in a Box: an internet-connected, Raspberry Pi-powered box with speakers that can play audio when an object is placed on it
- A collection of objects with pre-programmed audio of interviews with scientists
- Scientist postcards with activities for each scientist/career
- Access to Beyond the Box user guide with more options for tailoring this project to your specific needs
